September 5th: Rodney wins in the dark
Rodney won the 6th round of the Eastern Creek club championship in an epic battle in the final. Starting from 3rd, Rodney was pushed back to 6th early on, quickly getting back up to 4th, then 3rd and up to 2nd within the first 3 laps. The leader had already pulled out a lead but Rodney pulled in the gap with 4 laps remaining. It was neck and neck until the last lap with the leader defending the inside line, went in too late and came out wide out of the 1st corner allowing Rodney to pass up the inside and hold on for the win.
July 25th: Rodney wins from rear on field
Rodney made a successful return to Lithgow, winning the final by a comfortable margin. But it wasn't all smooth sailing as Rodney had DNF's and a DNS in the heats, resulting in a pre-final grid position of last. Rodney made a strong start to complete the 1st lap in 3rd. The remaining 11 laps had the lead change a number of time until. with 3 laps to go, Rodney made a break to pull out a 1.5 second gap to complete a last to first victory and insuring a pole position start for the final. The result of the final was decided on the first corner, Rodney leading into the corner and never challenged and pulled out a big lead to win by over 5 seconds.
June 27th: Rodney on top at the creek
Rodney Baker has taken out his 1st round win at Eastern Creek for 2009, after many 2nd's and 3rd's so far this year. The win will see Rodney jump into the club championship lead after 4 rounds. Rodney started the day well with a 2nd in heat 1 after starting from the rear, then went on the win all remaining races start to finish, all by an incredibly close margin, Micheal also had a good day finishing 6th in a big Over 40's field and having fun in the process.
June 20th: Rodney equals best state round result at Oran Park!!!
Round 3 of the NSW Premier State Cup at Oran Park saw Rodney qualify 4th on a damp but drying track, Rodney's 1st top 10 qualifying result. Heat 1 and 2 didn't go to plan with Rodney falling back to 6th and 10th respectively. Heat 3 saw the rain start to pour and Rodney hit his stride was a 3rd place finish in a tight lead bunch. Rodney started 6th for the pre-final and started his move towards the front from the get-go, sitting in 4th after 2 laps. Lap 3 saw Rodney catch the outside tyre on the painted lines and lost it all, spearing off the track just as he was catching 3rd. Due to his DNF, Rodney started from the rear of the field and saw the big task ahead. Amazingly, Rodney managed to be up to 4th after only 1 lap. But the gap to the leaders was just too great to make up thus Rodney settling for 4th and his equal best result since finishing 4th at the final state round last year at Eastern Creek.
April 4th: Rodney Back on Top
Round 3 of the Oran Park Championship saw Rodney drive away with his 1st round win for 2009.
March 7th: Oran Park
Rodney finished 2nd in round 2 of the SKRC championship and Micheal finished 2nd in his Over 40 class.
February 22nd: Lithgow
Rodney finished 2nd after winning the previous 2 races, and after having put his new kart together just the day before.
February 15th 2009: Oran Park
Rodney was a non-starter in the 1st round of the sydney kart club championship after finding a snap in his chassis after the carby session. Micheal went out in the wet conditions to finish 5th and display some great driving in the final.
February 1st 2009: Brian Farley Memorial
A bad weekend for Baker Motorsport, with poor results following a terrifying crash for Rodney in his clubman, rolling over twice and landing on his head. The kart itself is a write-off but Rodney walked away with minor injuries. Micheal was lapping at his best ever times until being taken out with only laps to go. Rodney jumped straight into the J after his incident and was running strong until an understeering problem slowed him down and caused Rodney to slide further back in the pack.
November 2nd 2008: NSW State Cup Round 4
Premier State Cup was back at Eastern Creek for the final round of 2008. Rodney got off to a good start with 6th place finishes in the heats. Pre-final didn't go according to plan as Rodney, who battled hard to get to 5th, had an unfortunate equipment malfunction which in turn caused Rodney chain to fly off. Starting from the rear for the final, Rodney made good ground to be up to 10th after lap 1, to 8th by lap 3 and into 5th by lap 4. Rodney managed to gain ground in the closing lap and with 1 lap to go made the passing move up to 4th were he finished. Overall a great weekend for Rodney after a rear of field comeback and to archive his best result in the state cup.
