2009 Wrap up
Rodney has won the CDKC Championship, placed 2nd by 1 point in the NSKC Championship and finished 3rd in the SKRC Championship. Rodney also finished 6th in the State Cup, 9th at State Titles, won the Clyde Marshall Memorial, and at the oran park farewell event, 2nd overall in national class after winning day 1, and 7th overall in his debut in clubman after winning day 1.

Micheal has a steady year, finished 6th in the NSKC championship and is excited in his moved to the 125cc TAG restriced class for 2010

September 5th: Rodney wins in the dark
Rodney won the 6th round of the Eastern Creek club championship in an epic battle in the final. Starting from 3rd, Rodney was pushed back to 6th early on, quickly getting back up to 4th, then 3rd and up to 2nd within the first 3 laps. The leader had already pulled out a lead but Rodney pulled in the gap with 4 laps remaining. It was neck and neck until the last lap with the leader defending the inside line, went in too late and came out wide out of the 1st corner allowing Rodney to pass up the inside and hold on for the win.

July 25th: Rodney wins from rear on field
Rodney made a successful return to Lithgow, winning the final by a comfortable margin. But it wasn't all smooth sailing as Rodney had DNF's and a DNS in the heats, resulting in a pre-final grid position of last. Rodney made a strong start to complete the 1st lap in 3rd. The remaining 11 laps had the lead change a number of time until. with 3 laps to go, Rodney made a break to pull out a 1.5 second gap to complete a last to first victory and insuring a pole position start for the final. The result of the final was decided on the first corner, Rodney leading into the corner and never challenged and pulled out a big lead to win by over 5 seconds.

June 27th: Rodney on top at the creek
Rodney Baker has taken out his 1st round win at Eastern Creek for 2009, after many 2nd's and 3rd's so far this year. The win will see Rodney jump into the club championship lead after 4 rounds. Rodney started the day well with a 2nd in heat 1 after starting from the rear, then went on the win all remaining races start to finish, all by an incredibly close margin, Micheal also had a good day finishing 6th in a big Over 40's field and having fun in the process.

June 20th: Rodney equals best state round result at Oran Park!!!
Round 3 of the NSW Premier State Cup at Oran Park saw Rodney qualify 4th on a damp but drying track, Rodney's 1st top 10 qualifying result. Heat 1 and 2 didn't go to plan with Rodney falling back to 6th and 10th respectively. Heat 3 saw the rain start to pour and Rodney hit his stride was a 3rd place finish in a tight lead bunch. Rodney started 6th for the pre-final and started his move towards the front from the get-go, sitting in 4th after 2 laps. Lap 3 saw Rodney catch the outside tyre on the painted lines and lost it all, spearing off the track just as he was catching 3rd. Due to his DNF, Rodney started from the rear of the field and saw the big task ahead. Amazingly, Rodney managed to be up to 4th after only 1 lap. But the gap to the leaders was just too great to make up thus Rodney settling for 4th and his equal best result since finishing 4th at the final state round last year at Eastern Creek.

April 4th: Rodney Back on Top
Round 3 of the Oran Park Championship saw Rodney drive away with his 1st round win for 2009.

 March 7th: Oran Park
Rodney finished 2nd in round 2 of the SKRC championship and Micheal finished 2nd in his Over 40 class.

 February 22nd: Lithgow
Rodney finished 2nd after winning the previous 2 races, and after having put his new kart together just the day before.

 February 15th 2009: Oran Park
Rodney was a non-starter in the 1st round of the sydney kart club championship after finding a snap in his chassis after the carby session. Micheal went out in the wet conditions to finish 5th and display some great driving in the final.

February 1st 2009: Brian Farley Memorial
A bad weekend for Baker Motorsport, with poor results following a terrifying crash for Rodney in his clubman, rolling over twice and landing on his head. The kart itself is a write-off but Rodney walked away with minor injuries. Micheal was lapping at his best ever times until being taken out with only laps to go. Rodney jumped straight into the J after his incident and was running strong until an understeering problem slowed him down and caused Rodney to slide further back in the pack.

November 2nd 2008: NSW State Cup Round 4
Premier State Cup was back at Eastern Creek for the final round of 2008. Rodney got off to a good start with 6th place finishes in the heats. Pre-final didn't go according to plan as Rodney, who battled hard to get to 5th, had an unfortunate equipment malfunction which in turn caused Rodney chain to fly off. Starting from the rear for the final, Rodney made good ground to be up to 10th after lap 1, to 8th by lap 3 and into 5th by lap 4. Rodney managed to gain ground in the closing lap and with 1 lap to go made the passing move up to 4th were he finished. Overall a great weekend for Rodney after a rear of field comeback and to archive his best result in the state cup.

About the Drivers

Baker Motorsport has 2 drivers, 19 year old Rodney Baker and his father 51 year old Micheal Baker

Rodney Baker: 2008 NSKC Club Champion
Micheal Baker: 4th place NSKC Championship

 Rodney leads Micheal

 Hard at work
From Left to Right:

Neil Stephens, Micheal Baker, Rodney Baker

Rodney Baker

2009 CDKC CHAMPION, 2nd Place NSKC CHAMPIONSHIP,
3rd Place SKRC CHAMPIOSHIP
2008 NSKC and SKRC CLUB CHAMPION

Young Aussie Rodney Neil Baker, born 20th of April 1990 at Gosford Hospital, lives in the Western Sydney suburb of Merrylands along with his father Micheal, mother Joanne and younger siblings Emma and Mitchell. Rodney's passion of racing comes from his grandfather Neil Stephens who's been in the motorsport industry for decades looking after a range of race cars from Formula 3 to Formula Ford and Historics to name a few. While growing up as a kid, Rodney and his family spent most Sunday's at a track supporting whichever driver Neil would be looking after. After years of being in the stands, Rodney decided he wanted in on the action but the family budget did not cater for this at the time. At the age of 15, Rodney had a bit of pocket money saved up from part time work and decided to start a career in motorsport with the full support of his family. After buying his first kart, a Monaco GP3, from Ken Mitchell's Racing Kart Services and engine, Rodney hit the track learning the ropes and soon after had his racing debut at Eastern Creek at the end of 2005. After finishing unscathed, Rodney had high hopes for the 2006 NSKC club championships and finished 6th in the Junior National Heavy class after his rookie year. His move up to the Senior ranks resulted in Rodney getting a new kart, a Monaco GP5, to contest 2007 with and his results were 9th in the Premier State Cup series final and 3rd in the NSKC club championship. At the 1st round in this years NSKC championship Rodney finished up with a comprehensive win finishing more than half a lap in front as well as another comprehensive win in his first ever round of the SKRC championship. After graduating from Merrylands High School in 2007, Rodney went looking for employment and given his involvement in motorsport and continual use of tools, Rodney thought the logical choice would to become a mechanic to better understand the mechanical side of racing. This all resulted in Rodney becoming an apprentice mechanic for Trivett Classic BMW after going though the selection process, which included an exam and interviews, beating over 250 applicants for the two positions available. 2008 saw the coming to age Rodney, winning two clubs championships and a fast finishing 4th at the State cup to round off the year. In 2009, Rodney steps up to the clubman class as well as juggling to continue racing in the national class. Rodney would like to thank the following:

His parents for all the money, time and effort they have put in.

His grandparents, Neil and Eve, for all their help and support.

Ian Baker and Parramatta Kart Warehouse for providing a roof over our heads at NSKC meetings and supplying us with with karts, parts and knowledge.

 Gulf Western Oil

 Powerlease Race Engines.

Ken Mitchell from Racing Kart Services for providing his expertise.

Iain Thornton for all his help and advice.

 2008 NSKC CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP - 4th Place

50 year old Micheal Raymond Baker, a Trucker contracted with Direct Couriers, was sick of watching his son Rodney race and decided to begin racing himself so that Rodney would have to run around after him for a change. Once he found out there was a dedicated class for drivers over 40 years old, Micheal jumped at the chance and never looked back. Although not the most competitive driver you'll ever see, Micheal's only out there for fun and that's all that matters to him, Micheal's not there to win trophies or personal glory, he's there to relax after a week of working his arse off and helps out as much as he can but leaves the competitive stuff to Rodney. After having gained a year of experience and always learning more about karting. Micheal achieved 4th in the NSKC club championship in 2008 and hopes to repeat the same success in 2009 with the introduction of the over 40's state wide series. Micheal would like to thank the following:

His son Rodney and wife Joanne for all the money, time and effort they have put in.

His parents-in-law, Neil and Eve, for all their help and support.

Ian Baker and Parramatta Kart Warehouse for providing a roof over our heads at NSKC meetings and supplying us with with karts, parts and knowledge.

Ken Mitchell from Racing Kart Services for providing engines and keeping them fast!

Gallery

Micheal

Rodney

 Micheal

Rodney

Micheal

 Rodney

 Rodney wins at Oran Park

 Rodney

 Rodney

 PKW ad

Look out for this on a road near you

 Working on Rodney's bent axle

From left to right: Neil Stephens, Micheal Baker, Rodney Baker

Port Macquarie

Port Macquarie (Port Macquarie Kart Racing Club)
Pacific Park International Kart Racing Circuit provides facilities that are one of NSW's Premier Kart Racing Facilities. It also features a dedicated breakdown lane.
There is a three storey air conditioned control tower, operating the start/finish lights, and overhead lap counter.
Here's an aerial picture of the track:

Eastern Creek

Eastern Creek (North Shore Kart Club)
There are 2 tracks North Shore Kart Club runs their meetings on, all sharing the same start/finish straight, in and out grids, turns 1 and 2, the flip flop onto the short back straight. From there, each track differs as follows:
The 846 metre track is the most common layout you will encounter. It is the same layout at the 1024M track but half way up the hill there is a double apex left hander back down the hill - just watch for the marbles on the outside of the double apex and the kerbing on the exit isn't too kind on your equipment if you happen to run a little wide. A great place to set up a move down the hill.

The 1024M Track, also known as the 'carousel' or 'shop' track because of the carousel shaped section just near the kart shop funnily enough. This is the longest of all tracks used for general club racing with the run up the hill through the fast righthander and into the braking area for the carousel means that your kart has got to stop as well as it goes! Careful through the carousel though as poor kart setup and drive off this important section costs lengths at the other end of the track. The section following the carousel provides a good build up for a fast run down the hill towards start/finish. 110km/h is not uncommon in a Rotax kart at the bottom of the hill after a good run from the carousel.

Contact Information

E-mail: baker_motorsport@hotmail.com
Rodney : 0411 340 842 or g_o_a_tno9@hotmail.com
Mick : 0413 023 770 or michealrbaker@optusnet.com.au
H: (02) 9632 1468
